Homeless Engagement Initiative, Dallas Public Library
Dallas Public Library empowers the homeless by providing H.E.L.P. (the Homeless Engagement & Leadership Program), which offers job seeking assistance, email setup, service referrals, and other progams designed to meet their needs and improve their lives.
The Homeless Engagement Initiative was launched in 2013 with support from the Friends of Dallas Public Library , the Texas State Library and Archives Commission and the Institute of Museum and Library Services. Through this initiative, the library has successfully engaged more than 4,000 members of the homeless community in library programs, mentorship and personalized assistance services.
For more information about the initiative, read Putting Out the Welcome Mat: Dallas Public Library’s Homeless Engagement Initiative, written by DPL’s library director Jo Giudice as featured in the Texas Library Journal (Spring 2017).
